I would call this just about
the best a “Predator” movie can be. It isn’t exactly high concept stuff, the
whole alien hunting humans as if they’re game thing. But, in the three films of
this franchise proper, the filmmakers have succeeded in making this bloody idea
entertaining and fun. “Predators” is the best of the bunch.
Instead of coming to our
planet to hunt us this time around, the ugly Predators have transported their
human game to a game preserve planet for their hunt. Once again, the game are
mostly mercenaries and the series actually references the original movie for
the first time since 1990. All the rules are back in place now that we’re done
with those stupid AVP movies. It’s hot. It’s a jungle. And our heroes have no
idea what’s going on.
These mercenaries don’t know
each other and one doesn’t seem to belong. I like how the title applies to both
the alien hunters and the human game. It ain’t just the Predators who are
predators in this franchise. Lawrence Fishburne throws a wrench in the works
and Topher Grace gives the predator mythology a new definition of ‘predator.’
